In Europe, we can come across this type of Persian rugs under a completely different name, as it is called Zigler in German and it spread mainly. Unfortunately, anyone who doesn’t understand enough about the types of Persian rugs often doesn’t even recognize it and incorrectly calls it a Pakistani rug. This name is really wrong.
After all, even though a Persian rug is made in Pakistan, it doesn’t become one yet - just think of reputable sports equipment brands. Chobi rugs are approx. 50% of it is made in Pakistan, yet it is an Afghan rug as it is knotted by Afghans living in Pakistan.
Csobi or chobi means Persian: wood, i.e. a wooden rug.
The brown color is added by the shell of the walnut to the chobi mat. The color is burgundy, made of pomegranate peel. The black level is obtained from coal.
The Csobi rug is from Afghanistan. So the Csobi rug is none other than Persian rugs - one type of Afghan rugs.
